"Uptonville" was an extension of the Bethel Church at old "Sandy" for two years before the groups decided to organize into a separate Baptist Church. A motion was adopted for a regular constitution as a Baptist Church on July 20, 1872. The following brethren and sisters were granted letters of dismissal by the Bethel Church and given a certificate to that effect. These 33 members, having been previously baptized, formed the first church: D.S. Handley, E. Watkins, W. Watkins, E. W. Tabb, T. B. Upton, J. H. Sullivan, J. E. Reynolds, J. T. Mudd, Amos Simpson, S. B. Watkins, M.C. Tabb, Haldah Watkins Celeste Burba, Eveline Brashear, E. Roby, Almyra J. Handley, Cynthia Philips, M. F. Mudd, M. E. Mudd, Grace Watkins, Mary Watkins, Eliza Phelps, M. J. Watkins, Melly Doran (of color), Jeff Cave, Robert Gibson, Nancy Cave, Lucretia Upton, Amelia Upton, N. J. Handley, K.A. Upton, Charlotte Burba, and Susan Watkins.
1870 - Sept 3. Organized "arm of Bethel Church" at Uptonville. Appointed J.T. Miller as Moderator, J.H. Brown as Clerk
1870 - Dec. 2 First deacons chosen: E.W. Tabb and Ed Watkins
1874 - July 25 Joined Lynn Association and elected delegates to represent the church: Samuel Watkins, D.S. Handley, and Albert Watkins. Ed Watkins was appointed to meet with the Home Mission Board.
1875 - Nov. 20 Motion made that D.S. Handley, Ed Watkins, and John H. Sullivan be appointed as a committee to solicit aid to build a meeting house. The land on which the church stands as donated by George W. Upton. The town of Upton was named for him.
1876 - July First 3 trustees elected to take care of the church: Ed Watkins, T. B. Upton, and Albert Watkins
1876 - Aug 19 First meeting in the new house. Dedicatory sermon will be preached at the next meeting.
1877 - Sept 7 & 9 First meeting of Lynn Association at Upton. Delegates were: W. Pierce, R. Dorsey, J.J. Lampton, G. W. Harbinson, W. Watkins, and A. Watkins
1879 - March 15 First Ordination of a pastor, W. B. Dye. Minister and Deacons from Bacon Creek, Oak Hill, Bethel, Sanora, Pisgah, and Little Hope churches were invited.
1884 - Feb. Committee appointed to solicit means to purchase a church bell to be installed in August
1897 - Aug. Organization of Upton Baptist Sunday School. W. R. Gaddie was superintendent. Clyde Keith was secretary. There were 6 classes in the first year with an average of 37
1907 - July 13 Building Committee appointed to tear down old building and erect a new one just south of the old one
1908 - Oct. 24 Dedication of new building. Dedication sermon by Dr. W. D. Powell, missionary to Mexico
1908 - Nov. 7 Name of church changed from Uptonville to Upton
1909 - July 11 First reference to a "resident" pastor, T. Riley Davis
1910 - July 9 Lot offered by Miss Mellie Upton for the erection of a pastor's home
1911 - July 8 Miss Blanche Upton commended for her efforts to raise money for pastor's home
1916 - March 11 Ladies Aid paid $100 for installation of a gas light plant and the church is to pay 1 cent per hour per light for each and every light burned. Baptist Young People's Union were asked to take a census of teh saved and unsaved people of the community for the benefit of the church.
1916 - Nov. 27 Letter read to the church from Clara Upton Keith from Shaki, Nigeria, West Africa, telling of her experiences and observations as a missionary among the natives of Africa.
1919 - Sept 12 Warren Keith licensed to preach, received education at Richmond College in Virginia
1921 - Jan Ordination of deacons: H.B. Burks, J. W. Chatten, T. A. Handley, and Alex Thomas
1922 - June 10 Building committee recommended erecting a six room dwelling with basement and furnace at estimated cost of $3950 to be used as the pastor's home.
1924 - Jan 12 Pastor's home complete and free of debt
1926 - First actual budget adopted
1929 - Sept 15 Edmond Keith recommended for entry to Baptist Bible Institute, New Orleans, Louisiana
1931 - July 8 Messengers appointed to assist in the ordination of Nobel Cottrell to the ministry. Ordination to be held at Mt. Pisgah Church, Saturday, August 30, 1931
1934 - July 11 Ordination of Deacons: Lee Ray, Joe Lewis Johnson, and Mack Perkins
1936 - Nov Dedication of new wings added to the church in 1934
1943 - Dec 12 Ordination of Deacons: T. B. Evans, W. M. Goodman and Perry Ward
1954 - June 13 Gas furnace installed in church. Later, attic was insulated.
1959 - March 1 - Ordination of Deacons: Everett Rider, Donnie MOrris, James Dewitt, and Charles Wilcox
1959 - Oct. 14 Radio programs started at WLOC
1959 - Nov Parsonage completely remodeled
1962 - Sept. Church library established by J. L. Drane in memory of Mrs. Francis Keith Drane
1962 - Dec. 5 Edward Goldsmith and Claude Cox accepted as deacons
1963 - Nov 2 Claude Hodges and Carolis Wooden accepted as deacons
1964 - May 6 Church basement remodeled, new restrooms installed
1965 - Oct 6 Joe Edd Johnson accepted as deacon
1966 - Feb 13 In observance of Race Relations Sunday, Bro. Douglas Bennett of this church exchanged pulpits with Bro. John Brooks of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church
1966 - Nov G. W. Vance ordained as deacon
1967 - Nov. Folding doors for Sunday School rooms installed. H.K. Dixon ordained as deacon
1969 - Nov. 5 Walton Vance accepted as deacon
1970 - May 6 It was voted to receive those persons from other Christian Churches into the fellowship of the Upton Baptist Church without "re-baptism" if they have had an experience of saving grace and have been baptized by immersion and given witness to the same.
1970 - Nov Orvill Underwood ordained as deacon
1971 - June 13 Bro Maxie Threatt resigned as pastor of Upton Baptist Church
1971 - July 11 Bro Ronald Rhodus accepted a call as Pastor
1972 - Feb 2 Our One Hundred Anniversary was discussed, a committee appointed to meet and start plans soon
1972 - May 28 A vote carried to buy a new heating system and air condition for the church
Reference was made through the earlier years to the fact that many of the members were called before the church and were excluded from the fellowship, mostly for drunkeness, gambling, dancing, and disorderly conduct. A committee was appointed to talk to those members. If they did not come before the church and apologize, then they were excluded from the church.
1973- May 13 A motion carried to put aluminum siding on the outside of the church at a cost of $2600
1974 - Sept 8 Bro Rhodus read a letter of resignation as Pastor to accept a call from First Baptist Church, Mt. Zion, Illinois
1974 - Dec 1 Bro John Lepper accepted pastorate effective Jan. 12, 1975
1977 - May 2 At a special Business Meeting a motion carried to trade our present parsonage for a new house on Big Springs Road, being built by Harold Terry at the price of $36, 500 with $1000 allowed on the old parsonage
1978 - Nov 1 Bro Lepper read a letter offering his resignation as pastor effective Dec. 3rd in order to accept the pastorate of First Baptist Church, Lebanon Junction, Kentucky
1979 - Aug 12 A vote on calling Bro. Philip Ronk after evening worship service carried. If Bro Ronk accepts he will move at once and fill the pulpit next Sunday. Bro Archie Allison thanked the Church for letting him serve as interim pastor for the last several months. Bro Ronk accepted the call and moved into the church parsonage Aug 16
1980 - Jan 2 A letter from Citizens Bank of Elizabethtown, addressed to the church treasurer stated that H. T. and Leola Johnson had established a trust fund for the Upton Baptist Church.
1980 - March 25 - The church received an inheritance from the estate of Ruby Weldon consisting of twenty thousand dollars. This is in the form of two C.D.s. These are not to be cashed but to be left to draw interest to be used as other income.
1980 - Sept 2 A memorial gift received from the estate of Carrie Rider Nelson in the amount of $2,370.75. A motion carried to use this fund toward the renovation. A baptistery in the church is being considered
1980 - Dec 3 David Wilcox and Carlos Booker elected to Deacon body, to be ordained Mar 8
1981- June 3 Larry Fraze was present at the regular monthly meeting and made a bid of $6,200 to build a baptistery.
1985 - Mar 6 Bro Allison will preach the spring revival beginning April 24. $2,720 has been donated toward the padding of the church pews.
1985 - Nov 1 Bro Ronk reads a letter tendering his resignation as pastor to become effective Nov 30, 1985
1985 - Nov 17 A pulpit committee will be selected Sunday night. The inheritance from the Edna Wood estate has been added to the church trust already established
1986 - Jan 8 Brother Allison recommends Miss Angie Speck to be hired as music director.
1986 - Feb 8 A vote to extend a call to Bro. Ted Richardson is favorable. He will be coming from Blue Ridge, GA.
1986 - May 7 We have been spiritually blessed with a wonderful two week revival. Bro Richardson has been preaching assisted by Bro Jones
1986 - May 18 Bro Richardson asked that he and Mrs. Richardson be appointed messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta, GA beginning June 10. A baptismal service was held preceding morning worship with 16 being baptized. Twenty-eight people accepted Christ but some will unite with other churches. Eight were received by letter and twenty - seven rededicated their lives. The trustees were commended on their work in finishing the basement renovation and blacktop work.
1986 - Aug 6 Motion carried to accept the resignation of Bro Ted Richardson
1986 - Oct 12 Bro Rich Lloyd accepts call as pastor
1987 - April 1 Motion carried to extend choir. Balance having been paid on the note for the basement renovation was burned.
1987 - Sept 2 A motion carried to present a plaque to Bessie Jones for serving as Church organist for so many years. Martha Ward and Anna Dixon were elected to lead the Golden Age group. Bro and Mrs. Lloyd have a new son born in Virginia.
1987 - Dec. 2 Motion carried to give 10% of the Mildred Richardson estate to a mission project
1988 - May 11 There were five cottage prayer meetings held before revival. To meet school requirements, Curtis Wheeler has been named Assistant Pastor for one year
1988 - Oct 1 At a special business meeting, J.L. Sturgeon and Don Wyatt were elected Deacons. Don Wyatt was ordained.
1988 - Nov 2 Our church will participate in the Kentucky Baptist Convention Simultaneous revivals in April 1990. Bro Lloyd has been elected to serve on the Executive Board for the Kentucky Baptist Convention for a three year term.
1989 - Mar 12 Curtis Wheeler to be ordained into the ministry
1989 - July 12 Vacation Bible School and Centrifuge both went well. We will baptize several from these two events
1989 - Oct Our church will have a part in the Community Live Christmas Tree Musical at the Methodist Church Dec 17 and 20
1990 - July 11 Debbie Lloyd and Kelly Blevins will be going to St. Mary's, Georgia for backyard Bible School
1990 - Oct 21 Dillard Wells ordained as deacon
1991 - Mar 6 Trustees report they are working on purchasing some property from Lyda Ray
1991- July 10 We had seven professions of faith at Vacation Bible Schools and three at Centrifuge
1991 - Nov 6 Trustees recommend that we do some renovation of the parsonage basement. This will consist of two rooms and a bath.
1991 - Dec 22 A special business meeting was called for the purpose of buying the lot west of the church from Lyda Ray
1992 - A quit deed was entered for UBC to claim property on the south side of the road and Hardin County Board of Ed. Property on the north side of the church. Parking lot property was purchased from Lyda Ray.
1992 - July 26 120th Anniversary of Upton Baptist was celebrated. Discussion was started for expansion of the church building
1993 - A special business meeting was held to take a vote on an educational building. The vote failed to be 2/3 majority. The issue will be revisited in 2 years.
1994 - Bro Richard Raymond Lloyd resigned as pastor. A TV and VCR were purchased. Bro. J.L. Sturgeon went to Russia on a mission trip.
1995 - Mar Bro John Smith was called as pastor. A computer was purchased for the church.
1996 - Mike Broadus was ordained as deacon
1996 - April 28-30 Seniors attended Senior Adult Convention
1996 - Becky Smith was hired as Children and Youth Director at $4,800 yearly
1997 - 125th Anniversary of Upton Baptist was held
Drawings for stained glass windows were accepted. Windows were purchased by a gift from Eleanor Miles Walker in memory of her parents and family.
Tornado warnings cut short the "Living Lord's Supper." The storm affected Hardin, Hart, and Larue Counties
$700 was given to ARC for flood/tornado relief
Nicole Wells served as summer missionary

Oleta Money went to Russia on a mission trip
The Christmas musical "I'll Be Home for Christmas" was performed

1999 - July In special business the vote was 94 to 4 to build a new educational building. Ground breaking for the new building was held.

2000 - Apr Dedication of the new Educational building and lower parking lot
2000 - July 4 Mike Broadus left for a mission trip to Poland
2000 - Sept Dillard Wells and Mike Broadus were accepted as deacons
2000 - Oct Becky Smith submitted a letter of resignation as Youth Director
2000 - Nov Nicole Wells was hired as Youth Director

June - A motion carried to blacktop the church parking lot. Billy and Teresa Wilcox were accepted as Youth Directors

Nov - Paul Cave became a member of the Board of Trustees
Dec - Nicole Wells became interim music director after the resignation of Garvis Campbell. Imo Baumgardner reported that Nancy Brown, Imo Baumgardner, Martha Ward, and Isaac Meredith would purchase four stained glass windows for the new building

Apr. - A motion passed to purchase the Bell property adjacent to the Church. $4000 was given for a stained glass window in memory of William and Catherine Wood
May - Lindsey Cottrell is preparing for a mission trip to the Philippines.
June - A motion carried to use money donated from the Wood Estate to pay off the New Building. Everett Rider and Wesley Cruse were elected as deacons.
